The movie “Jagun Jagun” has been generating buzz for the past few days, capturing the attention of social media users and sparking discussions about its plotline even among Christians. Interestingly, a parallel can be drawn between the fervor surrounding this movie and the discussions often seen among Gospel ministers.
Inevitably, there have been instances of criticism emanating from certain quarters within Christians. These critics argue that Gospel ministers engaging in discussions about secular movies are acting inappropriately. Additionally, I have come across reviews from various ministers who have shared their thoughts on the film.
Though, I did not watch the movie “Jagun Jagun” and experience its narrative firsthand, but this situation compels us to exercise prudence in our online expressions, especially under the guise of appreciation.
While appreciating the artistry and creativity behind the movie, we must also be mindful of our role in upholding values that align with our beliefs.
Be Careful with Your Online Presence
Ministers play a pivotal role as leaders within the Church, and their behavior is expected to align with the principles of Christ. The term “careful” aptly characterizes the attitude ministers should adopt, considering their representation of Christ in the digital world. As ambassadors of Christ, our online presence becomes an extension of His message, making it imperative that we exercise caution in our digital interactions.
Our online actions serve as a reflection of the values and teachings of Christ. Just as people observe and interpret the actions of a leader, they also observe what we do with and on our online space.
Also, the potential influence of our online presence on unbelievers cannot be underestimated. These individuals engage with sermons, Christian films, and testimonials, attesting to the profound impact of such content. When we maintain a considerate online demeanor, we have the opportunity to sow seeds of faith and compassion within the hearts of those who have yet to embrace Christ’s message.
The Principle of Edification
If it doesn’t edify, it isn’t worthy of being posted. Edification, as defined in the Bible, refers to the act of “building up.” As a solid foundation supports a sturdy structure, our words, actions, and online presence should contribute to the spiritual growth and strength of the church. Anything that does not align with this purpose must be carefully considered before sharing on our platforms.
While certain information may seem harmless, we must always evaluate its potential impact on the spiritual well-being of our followers either believers or unbelievers.
If it doesn’t edify, it isn’t worthy of being posted.

The litmus test for any content we consider posting should be whether it contributes to the uplifting of the church. Does it inspire, encourage, or nurture spiritual growth? If not, it might be best to reconsider its place on our digital platforms. Our commitment to edification should guide us in filtering out distractions and focusing on content that aligns with our calling as Christians.
Note: We are anointed ministers of God and Ephesians 4:12-16 encapsulates the purpose of the anointing bestowed upon us by God. This divine empowerment is intended to equip us for the work of edifying the body of Christ.
Social Media as an Altar
Today, social media has evolved into a powerful platform for connection, communication, and information sharing. However, we need to recognize that these digital spaces hold a deeper significance— our platforms on these spaces serve as altars where people come to encounter and learn about Christ. Just as physical altars in churches are places of spiritual revelation and impartations, your social media platforms are virtual altars of spiritual impact.
Your social media presence is more than a collection of posts and updates; it’s a space where individuals can witness and engage with the teachings of Christ. As believers, we have the privilege of using these platforms to share Christ’s message. Similar to the altars within the walls of a church, your online platforms should transmit the word of God, His utterances, and His proclamations to those who seek spiritual nourishment.
My point is every word you share on your digital altar carries a significant weight. So you should be cautious about each word spoken on your digital altar
Conclusion
The core purpose of your online presence is edification—the process of building up and nurturing the spiritual growth of others. While it may be tempting to engage in various discussions or share seemingly harmless content, the litmus test should always be whether your actions align with the goal of edification. Morality, though important, takes a secondary role to the greater mission of fostering spiritual growth.
My aim is not to condemn the movie or cast aspersions on those who have, in one way or another, written about it. My aim is for you to check if what you have done aligns with these guiding principles:
- The Principle of Edification: Before posting, ask yourself if the content you’re sharing contributes to the edification of others. If it doesn’t, consider refraining from posting, even if it appears harmless.
- The Principle of Apostolic Responsibility: Recognize that you are an apostle in the digital space, entrusted with the responsibility of representing Christ’s teachings. Approach your online interactions with the same reverence and purpose as you would within the physical walls of a church.
Your social media platforms are not just spaces for casual communication; they are digital altars of edification, where souls come to encounter Christ’s message. Uphold the importance of edification above all else, ensuring that your words, posts, and interactions contribute to the spiritual growth of those who engage with your online presence.
